Helping others through challenging times
Hi, my name is Tara, and I am a qualified counsellor based in Sydney. In my counselling practice, I draw on both my lived experience and professional training to support and empower clients.
I am a mother of three young children, one of whom was born with a rare chromosome disorder. Over the years of raising my son, I have navigated the medical and NDIS systems, advocating for his needs. Through this journey, I have gained a deep, personal understanding of the challenges many parents face.
In the past three years, my son and I have both overcome cancer and undergone invasive tumour removal surgeries. These experiences have further shaped my empathy, resilience, and commitment to supporting others through difficult times.
I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges using a strength-based and holistic approach, integrating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). This approach allows me to create a safe and supportive space where you feel heard, understood, and supported.
I work collaboratively with you to build practical tools, deepen self-awareness, and move forward with confidence and clarity.

Qualifications & Experience

I am a qualified counsellor with a genuine passion for supporting people through life’s challenges. My work is grounded in empathy, respect, and a belief that everyone deserves to feel heard, supported, and understood.

I hold a Diploma of Counselling and a Certificate IV in Mental Health, and I am a registered member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). I am committed to ongoing learning and will be completing my Bachelor of Counselling from 2026-2027.

Alongside my counselling work, I am self-employed as a Mental Health and Disability Support Worker. In this role, I have supported both adults and children with a wide range of neurological, physical, and psychosocial needs, including autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, anxiety, depression, trauma, and complex mental health conditions. This experience has strengthened my ability to meet people where they are, with patience, compassion, and understanding.

In addition to my professional background, I am a creative artist and designer and have been running my own brand, By Tara Louise, for over eight years.

I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel comfortable to be yourself, explore what’s going on for you, and move forward at a pace that feels right.
